Cambridge International A-Level (CIE A-Level) is a course designed by Cambridge Assessment International Education, UK. Cambridge Assessment International Education is the world’s largest provider of international education programmes and qualifications for 5 to 19-year-olds. Cambridge International is a division of Cambridge Assessment, which is a department of the University of Cambridge. Improvements are constantly made in research and development for their programmes and qualifications.
Cambridge Assessment International Education is recognised by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual). Ofqual is the regulator of examinations in England for the award of qualifications. CIE assessments and qualifications are closely monitored to ensure that it meets the appropriate standards by Ofqual. Cambridge International works closely with Ofqual to maintain their recognised status.
Furen International School offers the High School Diploma – Grade 12 for CIE A-Level for students age 15 and above. Upon completion, students will have developed the knowledge of the chosen subjects and the skills to prepare for CIE A-Level examination. Students who pass at least 1 subject in the examination will be granted a Cambridge International A-Level certification from Cambridge Assessment International Education. Students with good grades or at least three A-level subjects can look forward to pursuing university or other tertiary education in Singapore or overseas.
The English Language module aims to develop students’ English skills from four perspectives, reading, listening, writing and speaking. Students will explore a wide variety of topics ranging from education, society and religion, etc. It will empower them with better communication and comprehension skills that prepare them well for the higher education and the workplace in the future.
This module aims to enable students to acquire the necessary mathematical concepts and skills for everyday life, for continuous learning in Mathematics and related disciplines, and to develop the necessary process skills for the acquisition and application of mathematical concepts and skills. It is also intended to develop students’ logical thinking and problem solving skills and apply these skills to solve problems in different areas.
This module aims to provide experimental and practical Physics, thereby enabling students to acquire sufficient understanding and knowledge. It will give a thorough introduction to the study of Physics and their scientific methods, and develop students’ skills and abilities that are relevant to the safe practice of science and to everyday life such as instilling values for accuracy and precision, objectivity and integrity.
The Chemistry module is a skill-based module that focuses on understanding and application of scientific concepts and principles, over and above a memorisation of large quantities of factual materials. Experimental work is an important component and is the foundation of teaching and learning of Chemistry. It aims to prepare students with a broader base of practical chemistry and in particular to develop their appreciation of the finite life of the world’s resources, and hence the need for recycling and conservation.
This module engages students with the relevance and applicability of accounting in real-world contexts. Students will explore the role and responsibilities of the accountant, and study areas such as financial accounting and cost and management accounting.
This module enables students to understand and appreciate the nature and scope of business, and the role it plays in society. It encourages students to examine the process of decision-making in a dynamic and changing business environment and to develop critical understanding of business organisations.
This module aims to develop students’ understanding in relation to biological phenomena, facts, laws, definitions, concepts, theories and scientific instruments. It also introduces apparatus used in biology, including techniques of operation and aspects of safety. Upon the completion of studies, students are expected to use information to identify patterns, report trends, draw inferences and report conclusions. They will also be required to present reasoned explanations for phenomena, patterns and relationships.
Through the learning of this module, learners study how to explain and analyse economic issues and arguments, evaluate economic information, and organise, present and communicate ideas and judgements clearly. The syllabus covers a range of basic economic ideas, including an introduction to the price system and government intervention, international trade and exchange rates, the measurement of employment and inflation, and the causes and consequences of inflation. Learners also study the price system, the theory of the firm, market failure, macroeconomic theory and policy, and economic growth and development.
Further Mathematics (9231)
The Furen International School (FIS) A-Level Further Mathematics Module for Cambridge International Examination (CIE) A-level program is designed and developed to prepare students for the CIE A-Level Further Mathematics Examination. This module prepares students adequately for university course including mathematics, physics and engineering, where more mathematics concepts are required. The module aims to develop mathematical thinking and problem solving skills in students. Students will learn to analyse, formulate and solve different types of problems. They will also learn to work with data and perform statistical analyses.
Chinese Language aims at improving students written, spoken and comprehension skills in the language, Chinese. Upon completion the module, students should be able to speak Chinese with confidence, conduct Chinese conversation and understand Chinese essays. It also enables students to better appreciate Chinese literature works.
Geography focuses on two aspects, physical geography and human geography. Students get to explore topics like fluvial geomorphology, atmosphere, population and settlement dynamics. After learning the module, students will have a better understanding on the nature and use of different types of geographical information, both quantitative and qualitative. It also improves their ability to interpret and evaluate information and produce reasoned conclusions with regard to geography.
Computer Science (9618)
Computer Science develops an understanding of the fundamental principles of computer science and how computer programs work in a variety of contexts. Students are expected to equip with the skills such as thinking creatively, analytically, logically and critically in order to solve problems with regard to computer and its programmes.
Scope of Study
All lessons will be conducted following the High School Diploma – Grade 12 syllabus.
This is a 12-month full-time course with all lessons held on campus. There are 6 contact hours per school day, 5 days per week for a total of 30 contact hours per week.
At least 15 years of age as at 1st January on the year of course commencement.
Completed at least Singapore Junior College 1 education and obtained a pass in an English subject at Singapore Junior College 1 level or equivalent in country of origin.
Course Commencement Date
There are four intakes for this course. This course commences on January, March, July and October of each year. If either of those dates fall on a Saturday or Sunday, the course shall commence on the first Monday after that date.
Furen International School reserves the right to cancel a class/or programme if the minimum number of students enrolled is less than 15. Students may then choose to enrol for a later intake, if any, or withdraw from the course. For refund, please refer to our Refund Policy.
Furen International School is able to consider late enrolment after commencement of course on a case-by-case basis.

A Promotion Examination will be conducted, usually on the 11th week from the start of the unit. The content of the test shall cover (but not limited to) all the content delivered in that unit.
One major internal exam (Graduation Examination) will be conducted before the end of the course delivery.
Internal Assessment Mode
Students will be taking the Cambridge International AS and A Level Examinations (CIE A-Level) during or after the completion of the Course.
