The SAT is a standardised test widely used for college admissions in the United States since it was first debuted by the College Board in 1926. The SAT is wholly owned, developed, and published by the College Board, a private, non-profit organisation in the United States. It is administered on behalf of the College Board by the Educational Testing Service. The test is intended to assess students’ readiness for college.
The SAT is typically taken by high school students. The College Board states that the SAT measures literacy, numeracy and writing skills that are needed for academic success in college. In addition, the SAT also assesses how well the test takers analyse and solve problems—skills they learned in school that they will need in college.
Furen International School (FIS) offers the Preparatory Course for SAT, which is designed and developed to respond to the SAT Examination. This preparatory course is for Pre-University students who intend to apply into colleges and universities of the United States. The preparatory course acts as a stepping stone for interested students before taking the SAT examination. Our course is to equip our students with the key skills as well as the effective strategies to score in the SAT examination.
Students who have achieved decent scores in the SAT can look forward to pursuing university or other tertiary education in the United States.
Core Module
English
The SAT English module prepares student to think as an editor and improve passages that were written especially for the SAT test—and that include deliberate errors. It prepares students with various English language skills such as reading and writing. Students will be trained to read and interpret a variety of texts, such as argument passages, narrative non-fiction, and make the accurate analysis within the stipulated time. Students will also be trained to analyse charts and graphs that are part of the questions.
The module also aims to improve students’ comprehension skills in analysing and extracting the key information of an essay within a short period of time.
Mathematics
The Mathematics module prepares students for the SAT subject test (Mathematics). It covers a range of Mathematics practices, with an emphasis on problem solving, modelling, using tools strategically, and using algebraic structure.
The module will develop knowledge from both algebra and geometry, which will prepare students under three main areas: heart of Algebra, problem solving and data analysis skills and the passport to Advanced Math, which play critical roles in a wide range of college majors and careers:
Heart of Algebra, which focuses on the mastery of linear equations and systems.
Problem Solving and Data Analysis, which is about being quantitatively literate.
Passport to Advanced Math, which features questions that require the manipulation of complex equations.
The Math Test also draws on Additional Topics in Math, including the geometry and trigonometry most relevant to college and career readiness.
Scope of Study
