Cambridge International A-Level is a course designed by Cambridge Assessment International Education, UK. Cambridge Assessment International Education is the world’s largest provider of international education programmes and qualifications for 5 to 19 year olds. Cambridge International is a division of Cambridge Assessment, which is a department of the University of Cambridge. Investments are constantly made for research and development to improve their programmes and qualifications.
Cambridge Assessment International Education is recognised by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual). Ofqual is the regulator of examinations in England for the award of qualifications. Cambridge International assessments and qualifications are closely monitored to ensure that it meets the appropriate standards by Ofqual. Cambridge International works closely with Ofqual to maintain their recognised status.
Furen International School offers the Preparatory Course for Cambridge International A-Level. This course prepares students for the Cambridge International A-Level Examinations and equips them with critical thinking and comprehensive skills sets for pursuing university education or future career developments. Students who pass at least 1 subject in the examination will be granted a Cambridge International A-Level certification from Cambridge Assessment International Education. Students with good grades or at least three A-level subjects can look forward to pursuing university or other tertiary education in Singapore or overseas.
General Paper (8004)
The General Paper module aims to develop students into critical thinkers who are able to construct arguments and communicate their ideas using clear, accurate and effective language. Students will explore a range of key issues of global and local significance, providing them with a good foundation to thrive in a fast-changing world with maturity of thought, independent thinking and the proficient use of the English language. It will give them a broader understanding of the world and getting them ready to meet the challenges of higher education and the workplace of the future.
This module aims to enable students to acquire the necessary mathematical concepts and skills for everyday life, for continuous learning in Mathematics and related disciplines, and to develop the necessary process skills for the acquisition and application of mathematical concepts and skills. It is also intended to develop students’ logical thinking and problem solving skills and apply these skills to solve problems in different areas.
The module aims to provide experimental and practical Physics thereby enabling students to acquire sufficient understanding and knowledge. It will give a thorough introduction to the study of Physics and scientific methods, and develop students’ skills and abilities that are relevant to the safe practice of science and to everyday life such as concern for accuracy and precision, objectivity and integrity.
The Chemistry module is a skill-based module that focuses on understanding and application of scientific concepts and principles, over and above a short-term retention of large quantities of factual materials. Experimental work is an important component and underpins the teaching and learning of Chemistry. It is intended to prepare students with a broader base of practical chemistry and particularly to develop their appreciation of the finite life of the world’s resources and hence the need for recycling and conservation.
Through the learning of module, learners study how to explain and analyse economic issues and arguments, evaluate economic information, and organise, present and communicate ideas and judgements clearly. The syllabus covers a range of basic economic ideas, including an introduction to the price system and government intervention, international trade and exchange rates, the measurement of employment and inflation, and the causes and consequences of inflation. Learners also study the price system, the theory of the firm, market failure, macroeconomic theory and policy, and economic growth and development.
This module enables learners to apply their accounting knowledge and understanding in order to analyse and present information, give reasoned explanations, and make judgements and recommendations. The syllabus covers topics such as the recording of financial information, accounting principles and control systems, the preparation of final accounts for a variety of different organisations and businesses, raising capital by shares and loans, ratio analysis and cost accounting, and also study the preparation of cash flow statements, cash flow analysis, and standard costing and investment appraisal, among many other topics.
Business Studies (9609)
The module enables learners to understand and appreciate the nature and scope of business, and the role it plays in society. The syllabus covers economic, environmental, ethical, governmental, legal, social and technological issues, and encourages a critical understanding of organisations, the markets they serve and the process of adding value. Learners examine the management of organisations and, in particular, the process of decision-making in a dynamic external environment.
The module aims to develop students’ understanding in relation to biological phenomena, facts, laws, definitions, concepts, theories and scientific instruments. It also introduces apparatus used in biology, including techniques of operation and aspects of safety. Upon the completion of studies, students are expected to use information to identify patterns, report trends, draw inferences and report conclusions. They will also be required to present reasoned explanations for phenomena, patterns and relationships.
Further Mathematics (9231)
The FIS A-Level Further Mathematics Module for CIE A-level program is designed and developed to prepare students for the CIE A-Level Further Mathematics Examination. This module prepares students adequately for university course including mathematics, physics and engineering, where more mathematics content is required. The module aims to develop mathematical thinking and problem solving skills in students. Students will learn to analyze, formulate and solve different types of problems. They will also learn to work with data and perform statistical analyses.
Scope of Study
All lessons will be conducted following the Cambridge International A-Level syllabus.
This is a 24-month full-time course with all lessons held on campus. There are 6 contact hours per school day, 5 days per week for a total of 30 contact hours per week.
At least 16 years of age as at 1st January on the year of course commencement.
Completed at least Singapore Secondary 4 education and obtained a pass in an English subject at Singapore Secondary 4 level or equivalent in country of origin.
Course Commencement Date
There are two intakes for this course. This course commences on 2nd January and 1st July of each year. If either of those dates fall on a Saturday or Sunday, the course shall commence on the first Monday after that date.
Furen International School reserves the right to cancel a class/or programme if the minimum number of students enrolled is less than 15. Students may then choose to enrol for a later intake, if any, or withdraw from the course. For refund, please refer to our Refund Policy.
Furen International School is able to consider late enrolment after commencement of course on a case-by-case basis.

A Unit Assessment will be conducted, usually on the 8th week from the start of the unit. The content of the test shall cover (but not limited to) all the content delivered in that unit.
One major internal exam (Graduation Examination) will be conducted before the end of the course delivery.
Internal Assessment Mode
Students will be taking the Cambridge International AS and A Level Examinations (CIE A-Level) during or after the completion of the Course.
